If you want to upgrade every road and monorail in Death Stranding 2’s Australia, then you will need to mine for materials. Instead of recycling scraps and picking up materials you find on the way, unlocking the various mines in the game will give you a near-limitless supply of any material you’ll need. As long as you have the Chiral Crystals needed to power each mine, the materials can be all yours.

In this guide we’re breaking down every mine location – both large and small mines – what materials you’ll get, and more in Death Stranding 2: On The Beach. All of the large mines are located on monorail routes, so it’s recommended you upgrade those to transport your materials quickly and easily.

All large mine locations and materials – DS2

These large mines are all connected to monorail lines, which makes it easy to transport large quantities of materials for upgrades. Which is good, because these mines make it easy to access more materials than an off-roader can carry.

  • Materials Mined: Special Alloys
  • Monorail Line: Northwest Line

This mine is a required part of the main game progression, and it’s the best place to get Special Alloys. This mine is close to The Inventor.

These small mines aren’t connected to monorails, but are usually located near roads, so make sure to get an off-roader truck ready to ship your mined materials.

Smoke Hill Mine

  • Materials Mined: Ceramics

The Smoke Hill Mine is close to Old Oz’s Government Base, making it easy to access for quick Ceramics.

Twin Valley Mine

  • Materials Mined: Chemicals

The Twin Valley Mine is the only Chemicals mine in the game, and it’s right in the middle of a brigand outpost, meaning you’ll need to eliminate a lot of them before mining anything.

Savanna Mine

  • Materials Mined: Special Alloys

The Savanna Mine is easy to miss, as there isn’t too much else to see on this small island. You should climb the hill for some Chiral Crystals and some unique vistas, though. Oh, it’s a decent enough place to get Special Alloys, too.

South Edge Mine

  • Materials Mined: Metals

Finally, the South Edge Mine can supply you with Metals if you’re nearby and in need, though in our experience, Metals are the easiest resource to locate.
