Every Day We Fight: Dylan build guide

Learn how to use Dylan effectively in EDWF.
Signal Space Lab / Hooded Horse

Dylan is the Thorns’ muscle and so it’s no surprise that the best Dylan build in Every Day We Fight makes use of his punching power before anything else.

As you level up your characters in the roguelite turn-based tactics game, you’ll be able to invest Skill Points to unlock abilities. Each character has three pillars you can invest in, each providing unique skills and benefits. Although you’ll eventually get enough XP to unlock pretty much all the available nodes – note that taking some abilities blocks others – it’ll take a while to get there, so having a priority for which skills to unlock first is a good idea.

It’s also worth noting that you can refund your Skill Points and allocate them anew whenever you want, so be sure to experiment and try out different playstyles to adapt to challenges or discover a style you really vibe with. This beginner's guide will show you how to build Dylan as a close combat character who disrupts the enemy and keeps the team healed up.

Skill priorities for Dylan in EDWF

Prioritize getting Proximity Punch on Dylan for this build, as it will allow him to take a Reflex Action when enemies come near him, knocking them on their butts for two turns. This makes them easy prey for any follow-up attacks, but also takes them out of the fight temporarily — crowd control abilities like that are valuable in a game like EDWF, which drowns you in foes. Punches can also pierce shields and directly affect HP.

Although you can upgrade the offensive value of Proximity Punch by going for the DoT route, we’re rolling with Feels Good and Health Impact as high-priority upgrades. This makes Dylan into a very effective healer, restoring HP to all allies whenever he uses this Reflex Action.

Other parts of Dylan’s kit can greatly support this playstyle. Getting Taunt and Disappearing Act in the central pillar is very useful for protecting allies and baiting enemies into melee range. The smoke can interrupt your own line-of-sight to the enemy sometimes, so be mindful of the correct positioning.

In the third pillar, Health Insurance, Moving Target, and Tax Evader are very useful. Extra HP is always nice, but the other two boons are the real deal: Moving Target allows Dylan to scramble over greater distances, positioning himself for more punches or smokes, while Tax Evader nets him a free scramble, saving a Reflex Action for Proximity Punch. This enables Dylan to infiltrate the enemy’s lines on their turn by evading shots, disrupting any additional movements they try to make by punching anyone nearby.

Best weapon for Dylan in EDWF

While this playstyle works with any weapon, the Rattler is the best natural fit. Being a shotgun, it benefits from being close to its targets. With a Rattler in hand, Dylan is excellent at breaking the armor pieces of strong enemies like Grenadiers and Enforcers. Aim for the head to destroy their helmets, which allows you to either finish them off directly or leave the weakness for your allies to exploit. Of course, the weapons carried by Enforcers are even better suited for all this.
