Can Build A Rocket Boy salvage one of the worst launches of the year? The developer hopes to turn the fortune of MindsEye around with the release of Arcadia, a set of creation tools to enable users to make their own experiences within the game.

Originally, Arcade was a core part of what Build A Rocket Boy called Everywhere — a UGC hub akin to Fortnite or Roblox. MindsEye was supposed to be a showcase of its capabilities and give players something to try out while waiting for creators to get other games off the ground. But the actual order of releases didn’t turn out like that: MindsEye was launched first and in a disastrous state, making its developers the laughing stock of the industry for a few weeks due to claims that outside sabotage caused the game to fail, not its obvious and numerous shortcomings.

Now, it seems like the company wants to build Everywhere and Arcadia around MindsEye, not only doing things from the wrong end, but with a massively flawed foundation as its core. It’s a gambit that reeks of desperation, which is exemplified by the song choice in the announcement trailer for Arcadia — “play my game is all I’m asking.”
