The time of an approaching Dainsleif quest is already one of the most exciting seasons for Genshin Impact players, but with Version 5.7 of the RPG not only bringing out the Twilight Sword for another big lore drop quest the anticipation is even higher than usual — and the latest animated short, Star Odyssey, shows why. The Genshin Impact 5.7 banners will feature the mysterious Skirk, finally making her a playable character, and the video provides a glimpse at her backstory alongside casually revealing crucial information about the game’s setting.

Skirk, like the Traveler, is not from Teyvat. But unlike the Traveler and other Descenders – the outlanders with the power to change Teyvat – Skirk didn’t enter this world by herself, which is the explanation for why she doesn’t count as a Descender, but is called a Trespasser instead. Her path to Teyvat was opened by Surtalogi, one of the five Sinners and her eventual mentor, who casually sliced open the fake sky surrounding Teyvat to let Skirk in.

Yes, Surtalogi is so powerful that he can wound the fake sky at a whim — a feat that required Mavuika, the Pyro Archon, to use the full power of the Ode of Resurrection. The Sinners may well surpass the gods in terms of raw power, if Surtalogi the Foul is anything to judge by.

Aside from establishing Surtalogi’s power level, which will surely come into play later down the line, Star Odyssey revealed what Teyvat looks like from the outside. It seems like the fake sky surrounding the entire planet is not only projecting something false to the inside, but is hiding Teyvat from the galaxy outside as well. That is obviously intriguing — is Teyvat something like Honkai: Star Rail’s Amphoreus, a prison for something so absurdly powerful that it needs to be isolated, or is someone trying to hide Teyvat to protect it from something scary out in the cosmos?

Are Descenders, who can reveal Teyvat with their own power and change its fate, something like Trailblazers? HoYoverse loves these subtle connections and parallels between its works, though one also shouldn’t read too much into it — Descenders probably aren’t literally being empowered by Akivili and the Path of The Trailblaze.

Anyway, the area of space around Teyvat looks absolutely devastated, so the fake sky being a shield of sorts doesn't seem to be too far fetched either.

As for Skirk, she seems to have traveled along a similar route as the twins and even met with people like Alice and Dainsleif (who immediately recognized Surtalogi's combat style in her moves). What’s more, Skirk is seen at the beach where the Traveler is first waking up, looking at their little sketch in the sand depicting the Sustainer of Heavenly Principles. She's been watching the Traveler right from the start.

What exactly her connection to the Traveler is will likely be revealed in her Character Story, which is coming with Genshin Impact 5.7 next week.
