Microsoft has “nearly 40 games” in the works, claims top spot on PlayStation

Microsoft has published its financial report for the quarter ended on June 30, 2025, posting double-digit revenue growth in its gaming segment compared to the same period last year.
Increased game and service sales were the main driver behind the growth (up 13%), while hardware is continuing to plummet (down 22%).
Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella claimed that the company’s games and services now boast more than 500 million active users per month across platforms. He added that Microsoft had become the top publisher on both Xbox Series X|S and PS5 last quarter with Forza Horizon 5 and The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion – Remastered celebrating cross-platform successes.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 exceeded a total of 50 million players, Nadella said, while Minecraft delivered record active monthly users and revenue thanks to the Minecraft movie — a synergy effect we’re seeing in several financial reports at the moment: EA credited F1 – The Movie for helping F1 25’s strong performance, while the Netflix anime propelled the Devil May Cry series to surprise success for Capcom.
Nadella told shareholders that there are “nearly 40 games in development” across Microsoft’s studios at the moment.
However, the company expects a single-digit revenue decline for its gaming segment over the next couple of quarters, as they’ll have to compare to especially strong windows (the quarters that incorporated Activision Blizzard’s revenues for the first time).
Earlier this month, the company confirmed substantial layoffs, which also affected its gaming segment.
Microsoft’s next wave of releases will be shown off at Gamescom 2025, including Black Ops 7 and World of Warcraft: Midnight.
