Update (July 1, 2025): Nintendo has deleted the forecast data from its website to avoid any further confusion about the number of Switch 2 sales in the console's first month.

Original (July 1, 2025): The Nintendo Switch 2 must be having a fantastic launch: According to Nintendo’s own data, the console is expected to sell five million units in its first month on the market.

The original Switch sold 2.74 million units in its first month, exceeding the target of two million. Despite the successor finally arriving, the console is still expected to have sold a million units between April and July 2025. The Switch is currently Nintendo’s second best-selling console of all time, only ranking below the Nintendo DS. Sony’s PS2 is the only console ranking above these two when it comes to all-time sales across manufacturers.

Sony shipped 3.4 million units of the PS5 in its first month, though circumstances of the PS5’s launch were undeniably very different due to the COVID-19 pandemic raging at the time and production capacity being limited, which slowed the console’s adoption worldwide.

It looks like the controversy around the price of first-party games in the Switch 2 did nothing to harm the console’s sales, with titles like Mario Kart World being a huge plus for the platform.

Although Nintendo is keeping potential Switch 2 price increases on the table in case the tariff situation becomes yet more complicated, the console hasn’t suffered from any last-minute pricing changes. The company is, however, raising the price of NSO memberships in Canada soon.
