Giovanni Pokemon GO April 2021: How to Beat

Courtesy of Niantic.

Giovanni is back for Pokémon GO in April 2021 and everyone wants to know how to defeat him. As the leader of Team Rocket, Giovanni is the last boss you get to face; having to go through Cliff, Sierra, and Arlo before you even get a chance.

Hopefully, you managed to collect the Super Rocket Radar to help you track down Team Rocket, but don't worry if not, all you need to do is complete The Higher they Fly Research Quest or the Tricky Pokémon Timed Research.

How to Beat Giovanni in April 2021

Giovanni doesn't stop being tricky there, however, as while the Super Rocket Radar will show you lots of Giovanni decoys around Pokestops. These are often just Team Rocket grunts, but all you can do is keep clicking through them to find Giovanni.

Once you have located the Team Rocket leader, you need to be able to counter his three Pokémon line-up. Luckily, he always starts with Persian - so that takes some of the anxiety away.

Persian Counters

Persian is weak to fighting- and ghost-type Pokémon's, so here are some of your best bets: Machamp, Melmetal, and Blaziken.

Kangaskhan, Garchomp, or Nidoking

The next one is a bit if a guess as it could be any of these three. The best counters for Kangaskhan are fighting-type Pokemon such as Dragonite, Giratine, and Gyarados. The best counters for Garchomp are fairy- and fighting-types: Gardevoir, Snorlax, and Drapion. Finally, if Giovanni uses Nidoking, the best counters are ground-, water-, and psychic-type Pokemon: Mewtwo, Jirachi, and Landorus Therian.

Shadow Zapdos

Last but not least, Giovanni has access to Shadow Zapdos for April 2021. This is probably your best best for trying to catch him as well, so you will want to be thorough. Shadow Zapdos is weak to both ice- and rock- type Pokemon, meaning that some of the best counters are: Rampardos, Rhyperior, and Galarian Darmanitan.
