Until Dawn developer, Supermassive Games is back with another narrative horror adventure, and that means all its usual tricks back in the rotation. The Quarry's huge cast and branching narrative make it such that players can wind up with a shockingly large number of different endings — but all are ultimately variations of different sizes on two major endings. Here's what you need to know about the endings in The Quarry.

Total Number of Endings in The Quarry

Technically speaking, there are 186 endings, according to Supermassive. The Quarry director Will Byles told IGN that number in an interview back in April.

"Those stories, as you kind of branch through, go wide and they start to come back in again," he said. "It's kind of like the story itself is the variation, not just always the end. We worked out 186 different endings for these characters. Not just alive or dead [but] a whole variation of things like what could happen to them, but the stories that can happen are massively varied."

The biggest variations in-game are largely demarcated in-game as Patch Changes, but there are also more minute deviations players can make. Which characters survive is just the tip of the iceberg for variations — also vital is the amount of evidence players find. The more they find, the more convinced the hosts of the Bizarre Yet Bonafide podcast will be of the truth of the story.

10 Major Endings

Every ending in the game can be sorted into one of two categories. Either the player successfully lifts the curse, or the curse remains. Of the nine major endings, three see the curse lifted, and six see the curse remain in place.

Above the Law: Travis and Laura Hunt Down Silas

Several of the endings in The Quarry revolve around Silas, including what's widely considered the game's Good Ending. Accessing that ending, along with any of the others in which the curse is lifted, players must first get Travis and Laura to work together. That means jumping through a few hoops.

  • In Chapter 3, allow Ryan to shoot Bobby and save Nick. He'll drop a vial filled with blood that will be useful later.
  • In Chapter 7, have Laura loosen the brick by the bed in her cell. You'll need to climb up onto the bed and use the spoon lying on the windowsill.
  • In Chapter 7, go up to the top floor of the police station and enter the last office. Inspect the locker inside and you'll find a syringe of tranquilizer. Take it and hide it behind the brick in the cell before you return to Travis.
  • In Chapter 7, opt not to take Travis' gun.
  • In Chapter 7, when Laura is pretending to be sick, successfully complete the QTE to have Laura tranquilize Travis
  • In Chapter 9, successfully complete the QTE when Constance tries to grab Laura's gun, shooting her
  • In Chapter 9, have Ryan leave the knife in his wound to prevent him from bleeding out
  • In Chapter 9, opt not to stab Bobby as Ryan
  • In Chapter 9, have Ryan choose to be bitten
  • In Chapter 9, have Ryan shoot Chris in werewolf form
  • In Chapter 9, after Laura thanks Travis for not killing her, respond suspiciously. Laura will eventually agree to help Travis track down Silas

With all that done, you'll be able to access the three lifted curse endings, plus two that have the curse remain in place.

The Quarry Good Ending: Laura Kills Silas; Travis and Ryan Survive; The Curse is Lifted

This ending sees all three characters surviving, and Caleb returning to human form, but if he's still stuck in the freezer he'll die of exposure.

  • In Chapter 10, nail the QTEs while Silas is attacking the car, then opt to Take the Wheel when prompted
  • In Chapter 10, when Ryan offers Laura the vial of blood, give it to whichever character's survival you want to guarantee
  • In Chapter 10, don't let Laura hesitate when choosing to shoot Silas. Killing him will end the curse

Laura Kills Travis and Silas; The Curse is Lifted

In this ending, Caleb will once again freeze if he's still in the freezer.

  • In Chapter 10, nail the QTEs while Silas is attacking the car, then opt to Take the Wheel when prompted
  • In Chapter 10, when Ryan offers Laura the vial of blood, give it to whichever character's survival you want to guarantee
  • In Chapter 10, have Laura refuse to raise her gun. This will make Travis upset, and he'll try to grab the gun. Failing the QTE will have her shoot him. Shoot Silas after this

Laura Lets Silas Live; The Curse Remains

In this ending, Caleb will survive being stuck in the freezer

  • In Chapter 10, nail the QTEs while Silas is attacking the car, then opt to Take the Wheel when prompted
  • In Chapter 10, when Ryan offers Laura the vial of blood, give it to whichever character's survival you want to guarantee
  • In Chapter 10, have Laura refuse to raise her gun. This will make Travis upset, and he'll try to grab the gun. Succeed in the QTE and you'll have the choice to kill him or Silas. If you kill Travis, whichever other character did not receive the blood vial will be killed. If neither character has the blood vial, both will die. Either way, the curse will remain in place

Laura Kills Silas, But Dies in Car Crash; The Curse is Lifted

  • In Chapter 10, let Laura hit her head on the window by failing the QTE in the car crash. Grab the gun on waking, and fail the QTE when Silas swipes for Travis' head
  • In Chapter 10, crawl out of the car and pass the QTE to pick up the gun. Succeed on the next two QTEs to kill Silas

  • In Chapter 10, fail the QTE when trying to pick up the gun

All the Hacketts Die; The Curse Remains

In this ending, you'll follow the fortune teller's advice to kill the Hacketts and save Silas. This will ultimately lead to Laura fleeing the island and look for Max. You'll need to have found and recovered the silver shells to make this work, and made the following decisions:

  • In Chapter 9, pass the QTE when Constance goes for the gun, killing Constance
  • In Chapter 9, have Ryan leave the knife in
  • In Chapter 9, have Laura attack Jed
  • In Chapter 9, have Ryan stab Bobby
  • In Chapter 9, have Ryan refuse to be bitten
  • In Chapter 9, have Ryan shoot Chris after Bobby dies
  • In Chapter 9, win the QTE fight for the shotgun and have Laura shoot Travis
  • In Chapter 10, investigate the noise instead of going to the kitchen. When Abi and Emma roll the shells to Laura, succeed in the QTE to kill Caleb, leaving no Hacketts alive.

The fortuneteller will thank you for your work, and you'll be sent to the epilogue.

Travis Captures Laura; The Curse Remains

This ending hews close to the Hackett massacre ending, but diverges by allowing Travis to survive in the scramble for the shotgun.

  • In Chapter 9, lose the QTE fight for the shotgun, allowing Travis to take Laura captive, putting her in a cell and leaving the mystery unsolved

This ending requires sacrificing Ryan, but reunites Laura and Max and cures their infections.

  • In Chapter 9, have Ryan refuse to be bitten
  • In Chapter 9, have Ryan shoot Chris after Bobby dies
  • In Chapter 9, win the QTE fight for the shotgun and have Laura shoot Travis

After Travis is dead, Laura will escape the house and grab a dress of Constance's from a clothesline outside. The game will cut to Max. Have him follow the path to the dock and he'll run into Laura.

Mutually Assured Ending Guide: Travis and Laura Kill Each Other; The Curse Remains

To get one of the darker endings in the game and unlock the achievement of the same name, follow these steps:

  • In Chapter 9, have Ryan leave the knife in
  • In Chapter 9, have Ryan refuse to be bitten
  • In Chapter 9, don't let Ryan shoot Chris.

With these decisions made, Laura will stay in werewolf form. She and Travis will fight until she mortally wounds him. He'll get revenge by stabbing her to death with a piece of the silver-back mirror, then die himself.
