Knowing how to beat Arlo in Pokémon GO requires knowledge of his team. Arlo's team is different each time you fight him, so bringing a team of Pokemon with good coverage is essential to defeating him. His team has been updated since his original encounter, so here's how to defeat his updated team as of February 2020.

To find Arlo, you must first defeat Rocket Grunts to acquire six Mysterious Components. With those, you can make the Rocket Radar and find the Rocket Base where you can challenge Rocket Leaders.

How to Beat Arlo Pokemon Go

Arlo will always begin the battle with Mawile, a Steel- and Fairy-Type. His second slot can either by Charizard, Blastoise or Steelix. His third slot will be Scizor, Dragonite or Salamence.

Charizard is weak to Water and Electric moves, and is double weak to Rock. Blastoise is weak to Electric and Grass. Steelix is weak to Fire, Fighting, Ground and Water.

Dragonite and Salamence both share the Dragon/Flying type, so they are weak to Dragon, Fairy and Rock. They are both double weak to Ice, but they also have moves that cover the Ice weakness. Scizor only has one weakness, Fire, but is double weak to it.

Most of Arlo's Pokemon options are weak to Fire or Rock. You should always lead with the Fire type to deal with Mawile. It will also cover Steelix and Scizor later on.

A good Rock type like Tyranitar will be good against Charizard in the second slot, and can cover both Salamence and Dragonite in the third. It will be a poor match against Blastoise, Steelix or Scizor. Your Fire-Type can take care of the latter two.

You should also bring a strong Electric-Type, as that counters Blastoise in the second slot and both Salamence and Dragonite. Steelix could completely stop it, so Zapdos is ideal here as it resists Ground type moves.

Chandelure, Tyranitar and Zapdos are good counters for most of Arlo's team.

According the Silph Road, defeating Arlo will get you:

  • 1000 Stardust

And two of the following:

  • Three Hyper Potions
  • Max Revive
  • Three Revives
  • Max Revive
  • Sinnoh Stone

Arlo's Pokémon are at very high CP, so you need to bring your strongest Pokemon with the proper type coverage to defeat him.
