How to Catch Shiny Shedinja in Pokémon GO

Niantic

Shedinja makes its shiny debut into Pokémon GO! As October's Research Breakthrough Pokémon, trainers will be awarded encounters with the Shed Pokémon for completing Field Research tasks. Trainers will have more opportunities to catch Shedinja from Oct. 1 at 1p.m. PT to Nov. 1 at 1p.m. PT. In order to increase your chances of seeing it in its shiny form, here's a guide on how to catch Shedinja in Pokémon GO.

How to Catch Shiny Shedinja in Pokémon GO

Like any shiny Pokémon, there's not a guaranteed way of encountering shiny Shedinja in the wild. In its shiny form, this generation seven Pokémon is only distinguishable by its lighter hue of brown. The best way to catch Shedinja in this form is by maximizing your encounters with it as well as repeatedly catching it.

To earn Research Breakthrough encounters with Shedinja, trainers must complete at least one Field Research task a day. Field Research tasks are found by spinning the Photo Disc at nearby PokéStops. You are only able to collect one Field Research task per PokéStop per day.

After seven days, you would have acquired seven stamps, which completes a Research Breakthrough, giving you an encounter with Shedinja. Additionally trainers will receive one incense for every completed task. Here are a few of the Field Research tasks offered during October and their rewards:

  • Catch 5 Pokemon: Zubat, Teddiursa, Woobat
  • Catch 7 Pokemon: Magikarp
  • Catch a Dragon-type Pokemon: Bagon, Dratini
  • Catch 5 Pokemon with Weather Boost: Poliwag, Vulpix, Hippopotas, Snover

Shedinja is a Bug and Ghost-type Pokémon introduced in 2018. Shedinja is known for being protected by its signature Wonder Guard ability. Though it has one HP, it can only be hit by super-effective attacks and indirect damage. This means that Shedinja can only be hurt by Fire, Flying, Dark, Ghost and Rock moves.

Unfortunately, there are no abilities in Pokémon GO, rendering Shedinja as pretty much useless when it comes to battle in the mobile game. However, due to its rarity, Shedinja is still a worthwhile Pokémon to add to your collection.
