Communication is vital to rack up wins in many multiplayer shooters and Call of Duty is no exception. This is where pinging comes in. A common feature used in many games that provides markers that pinpoint areas of interest and enemies making communication amongst players more efficient.

Recently, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has seen the removal of its ping system because of a major bug affecting gameplay. Reddit users had been reporting that they were able to ping opponents during the death screen and that players would remain marked for the entirety of the game. Obviously, this would make matches extremely unfair for those pinged as they could be easily located.

Infinity Ward is working on eliminating this bug so the ping system will return at some point. When that return does occur, it is important for players to understand how to use this helpful feature. Luckily for those confused, we have broken down the method to ping for you.

Simply tapping up on the D-pad of your controller or pressing the "Alt" button if your using a keyboard will place a ping at the location your aiming at. Directly pinging an opponent will place a marker on them that will track with them for a while.

If players want to communicate something else to their teammates, they can bring up the ping wheel. Players can choose between four options-Quiet, Watch, Help, and Go. The wheel can be brought up by holding up on the D-pad or holding the "Alt" button on keyboards. Once brought up, players will need to select the ping they want to use and then release.
