Marco Van Basten was one of the first-ever Icons added in FIFA 18 post-Legends. The Dutch striker was one of the greatest goalscorers of his time, however, was suspended from FIFA games in the past after making pro-Nazi remarks during a TV broadcast. He was removed completely in FIFA 20, and was suspended again in FIFA 21, but made his return in FIFA 22.
Van Basten's previous suspensions bring questions for his future in FIFA: will Van Basten be in FIFA 23?
Is Marco Van Basten in FIFA 23?
According to Ultimate Team Leaker FutSheriff on Twitter, Van Basten will still feature in FIFA 23 when the game is revealed. It is still a bit early before the launch of FIFA 23, so the decision to keep Van Basten may change within the coming months. However, Sheriff says that the striker will likely remain in the game.
As well as Van Basten, FutSheriff also says that Marc Overmars and Diego Maradona will also remain in the next installment of FIFA after being removed from FIFA 22. Overmars' reason for being removed did concern allegations of sexual misconduct at Ajax, while Maradona's was due to licensing issues. It'll be interesting if they do stay in the game. We'll have to wait for EA to give news on these Icons prior to the release of FIFA 23.
