Wondering if Overwatch 2 will see the return of the Anniversary Event in 2023? Here's what we know so far.

Every year, Blizzard rolls out an Anniversary Event in Overwatch to celebrate the date which the game released. The event usually includes a selection of Anniversary cosmetics for players to purchase from the Hero Gallery. These include voice lines, Hero-exclusive sprays, skins, emotes and more.

Blizzard has hosted an Anniversary Event in Overwatch for the past six years, having occurred on the following dates:

  • 2022: May 17th - June 7th
  • 2021: May 18th - June 8th
  • 2020: May 19th - June 9th
  • 2019: May 21st - June 10th
  • 2018: May 22nd - June 11th
  • 2017: May 23rd - June 12th

But 2023 marks the first year that the Anniversary Event dates could roll around in Overwatch 2, leading many players to wonder if Blizzard will continue to honor the tradition for the newer game.

Is Overwatch 2 Getting an Anniversary Event in 2023?

At the time of writing, Blizzard has yet to reveal plans for an Anniversary Event in Overwatch 2. May is fast approaching, and the anniversary date for the original Overwatch falls on May 24th.

But now we're onto Overwatch 2, which officially launched on October 4, 2022. So it remains unclear whether Blizzard plans to launch the Anniversary Event around the original Overwatch's release date, or Overwatch 2.

Should the latter be true, then players could expect to see the event happen closer to October. The issue here, however, is that it would run a little too close to the game's Halloween events. If Blizzard plans to keep their Overwatch events spaced out more evenly, then a May date for the Anniversary Event makes more sense.

For now, though, players will need to wait and see whether Blizzard plans to announce the Anniversary Event in the next few weeks to coincide with the release of the original Overwatch.
