Tier demotion protection in Apex Legends is a system that prevents players from being punished overmuch for underperforming. Here's how the demotion protection system works — what it will save you from, and whether or not it will ever stop protecting your rank.

Tier Demotion Protection Apex Legends: How Does it Work?

The Apex Legends ranked mode sorts players into six competitive brackets: Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Diamond and Apex Predator. Each rank outside of Apex Predator is further broken into divisions. Players are assigned both a rank and a division based on their in-game performance.

While a player's rank and division can fluctuate over the course of the season, there is a floor on how far they can fall. Bad performances can knock a player down from division to division — from Gold I to Gold II, for example.

But no matter how badly a player performs, they can never fall from rank to rank. This tier demotion protection will keep players in the highest rank they've achieved. If a player is sorted into Silver, they will never be able to drop below Silver. If they subsequently rank up to Diamond, they'll never be able to fall below Diamond.

Tier protection never ends, meaning players can never fall below the rank they currently stand in.
